Vassa Eggen (the razor’s edge) is named after Somerset Maugham’s classic book from 1945. The book is about the voyage around the world and ’spiritual search’ of the main character Larry, but the restaurant treats you to an exciting culinary voyage of discovery. From popular (business)-lunch restaurant during the day, with an affordable ’lunch of the day’, Vassa Eggen pops up in the evenings to a luxury gourmet temple and chic lounge. Everything here breathes perfection and style: from the tasteful, austere interior, with white table-clothes and silk curtains along the wall, the leather lounge chairs, the Jugendstil glass dome, the professional service, to the guests with their elegant business clothes and perfect table manners. The prized menu is tasty and ambitious. Considering the steep prices on the à la carte menu you might just as well go for the four course (choice-)menu with exciting dishes such as venison with horse-chestnuts and apple crème or sole with lobster vinaigrette and raw prawns.
