Operakällaren

The seeker of a classic stringent restaurant should require a visit to one of the gastronomically foremost institutions in the Swedish capital. Choose to be seated in the Main Dining Room, one of four restaurants in the big venue of Operakällaren and you will find yourself in a fantastic setting with carved oak walls and wall paintings from early nineteen hundreds. Look outside and you’ll see the royal castle and the old town. The interior is a very convincing blend between old and new. The service is classically tenacious, a humble approach without aloofness to any visitor and the guests are an interesting mix, ranging from hillbillies to big wallet people and celebrities. The staff is top-notch professionals and will, if asked upon, enthusiastically talk about, for example, their fantastic selection of cheeses. The wine is picked from an astonishing wine list by sommeliers with great knowledge but without the need to brag to a deaf ear. The menu is in French and English and you will find both traditional and unconventional items on it but in both cases with a creativity that should bend even the toughest of critics. The Steamed halibut with basil butter on black pasta is a must. Operakällaren is of course economically challenging but well worth saving towards for the avid seeker of culinary happiness.
