Aurora

This unpretentious Italian restaurant in young, multicultural Williamsburg (Brooklyn) has a dark wood decor, simple tables and chairs, with patrons mainly in their early thirties. The lighting is pleasant and the personnel are just the right degree of friendly. Chef and co-owner Riccardo Buitoni is famous for his home-made pasta filled with fresh ingredients. The fresh focaccia with olive oil dip is a very promising appetiser. The menu offers a wide selection of antipasti, primi, secondi and desserts, as well as a number of daily specials. The servings are civilised and extremely tasty. Start with a Burrata Pugliese (the mozzarella is so soft that it could almost come straight from the water buffalo) and then choose one of the house specialities. Don’t forget to order a glass of dessert wine with your Tortino di Cioccolato (chocolate ganache with caramelised pears). That and the reasonable check make the trip more than worth your while. Large outdoor terrace with tables in summer. Remember: cash only.
