44 Restaurant
New York’s first boutique hotel, designed by Starck. Although it’s no longer the ultimate place to be, it has kept its classy feel. Well-designed walnut double doors with a square window, an asymmetrical royal blue carpet runner, a wall filled with hidden niches, white leather lounge couches and a pompous maître-d’. The hotel and restaurant seem timelessly modern, but the conical white linen serviettes bear tell-tale signs of their age. Power lunches and dinners are held here. Suits murmur softly to each other. The waiters are proper, but disinterested. The menu could have come straight from France. Limited lunch options - one pork, one seafood, one vegan, one pasta - but the dinner menu is absolute luxury. Lobster, caviar & champers. The food and presentation are in sheer Starck style. Bring along a lady in a long dress.Address
