Ninja
Nothing is strange in New York. Dressed in Ninja costumes, the personnel greet you at the door and invite you to choose between the “easy” or “difficult” route to your table. Over the labyrinthine, torch-lit path, you are led over wooden bridges, ducking Ninjas falling around you from right and left. A secret wall slides away and before you is the intimate cave-like dining area. The menu is Japanese fusion and is presented on a role of parchment. The tasting menu is recommended, for both the sake and the food. Try the foie gras Dai Ginjo served on a huge Daikon radish on a steaming hot stone plate, Venus shell and bacon in soya milk bouillon with finely sliced Kurobuta pork steak, vegetables and ton-yam-kung pasta cooked at the table with stones at 426 degrees Celsius! And for dessert, the bonsai tree made of biscuits, chocolate and green tea icing. The food is not superb, but the presentation and the entertainment like the Ninja magician make it a unique experience. This restaurant is especially fun for groups; unfortunately the intimate setting is not particularly geared for people-watching. However, if you feel like an absurd evening, this one-of-a-kind restaurant is for you.
