The Stanton Social
For the young and alternative Lower East Side, this is a really chic and sophisticated place to be. A high ceiling, slightly understated classical round tables and atmospheric minimalist lighting. At the back there’s a mezzanine floor with more seating, and the whole wall is lined with a very impressive wine collection. The brunch menu offers familiar favourites like Frittatas, as well as less well-known creations such as the Potato Pierogies. Highly recommended are the Buttermilk Pancakes. Visitors are told very clearly that the dishes are intended to be shared, and that their orders will not necessarily arrive at the same time (which no doubt makes things easier in the kitchen). The cocktails are simply breathtaking. Go for the house ‘Social Tea’, but don’t expect it to be like kids’ lemonade. And they do something very special with the Bloody Marys as well, because they taste better than ever. A lot of young people come here which is no bad thing, otherwise you could be forgiven for thinking it’s all a bit dull. But nothing could be further from the truth!Address
