Suba
Apart from dilapidated houses, graffiti and ‘rough edges’, the Lower East Side has a trove of hidden treasures. In one of the funkiest streets of the LES the recently renovated and restyled restaurant Suba does not stand out. You can enjoy a cocktail in a standard overly trendy lounge. Select a Classical Sangria or a surprising Absinthe Mojito. However, downstairs, below street level and surrounded by water is ‘where the real magic happens’. In what is referred to as the Grotto, your palate will experience the exclusive taste of extraordinary tapas, far way from the outside world and surrounded by water. Small squids with grilled water melon and pistachio nuts, perfectly prepared lam from Vermont with asparagus and pure chocolate mousse with blood oranges. Once you have reached the street level again, you will need to adjust your eyes: you are in the centre of NYC, not at the Ramblas. Suba is the type of restaurant where you can easily let your mistress accompany you.Address
