Sueños

Via an obscure hall you step into an illusionary Frida Kahlo painting with bright pink walls, an interior rock garden and sultry music. Begin at the bar with a rare tequila or a stiff Margarita to amplify the pleasant hallucination. Sueños has a kitschy edge, and the menu also does justice to the traditional Mexican tastes – but then refreshing and refined. In a city where you stumble over colourless burrito joints, this chef’s idea of Mexican is like a breath of fresh air: exciting ‘intoxicated’ empanadas or delicate corn-lobster beignets. The main role is for the ‘cocinera’ who on a DJ-like platform continuously prepares fresh tortillas and smooth guacamole. Sueños is just as hip as the surrounding area, but before you are able to start to get annoyed by the, at times, too loud public, you are already dreaming away.
