Florent

Located in the Meatpacking District, this French 24/7 diner is deliberately non-trendy. The biggest map on the wall is a street map of Rotterdam. It appears to be a real diner, complete with Formica tables, aluminium walls and long bar lined with stools – except for the people and the food. The menu lists the hamburgers and Caesar salad beside chicken merguez couscous and charcuterie. Pay particular attention to the three black signs with plastic letters in the middle behind the bar, spelling out tomorrow's weather forecast, and the must-see events in the Village: “Anti-Bush demonstration, tomorrow, 2pm, Washington Square.” Florent Morellet has been the patron saint of the Meatpacking District for decades, fighting for a better world armed only with his black pudding (Boudin Noir or blood sausage).
