Cookshop
The modern big sister of a 20th century soup kitchen, on a larger scale and offering a more varied menu. Centrepiece: the open kitchen features a slowly turning rotisserie and a wood-burning oven. Sturdy white tables stand firmly on a stone floor. The many windows offer a nice view of the heart of Chelsea. Don’t expect any fast-talking bartenders in tight T-shirts here. The shelves lining the walls are filled with antique cooking implements. The serving staff, like the place itself, is very authentic. The patrons are mainly locals who come to enjoy the authentic NY strip steak, Vermont suckling pig and Catskill duck breast, brought in straight from the country. Cookshop offers an extensive, highly international wine menu. Nothing overly fancy, but anything this normal is unusual in the Big Apple. For when the urban jungle of concrete and glass is making you feel nostalgic about good country cooking.Address
