FAQ-Cafe

Within stumbling distance of the metropolitan Tverskaya Ulitsa, down the stairs, behind an unobtrusive door and into a cellar lies FAQ Café. Once the first WiFi café and restaurant in Moscow, now it has become more like ‘Central Perk’. In a series of small rooms in an old vault, you can sit surrounded by early twenty-somethings and play board games, drink green tea from beer mugs, lounge around and, later in the evening, watch art house movies. The menu offers an acceptable mixture of such varied dishes as Spanish tomato soup with shellfish, Japanese noodle soup, pasta carbonara and combinations like pork with orange. There is also a reasonable selection of vegetarian food, which is not always a given in Moscow. A loft bed and a number of improvised two-person niches two metres up offer excellent underground lounge spots. Stylised underground, of course, because in Moscow even grunge hair is perfectly styled.
