Café Pushkin

The 19th-century Franco-Russian food shouldn’t be what brings you here; the best way to describe it is ‘too much for too much’. Such heavy fare as: Three Heroes (pork tenderloin with chicken and bacon) or Filoret (tiny pancakes with various fillings). The café downstairs, open 24 hours a day, is more interesting than the big restaurant. This is a place that Muscovites love, although not every foreigner might understand its appeal. In the library of this literary hotspot, intellectuals, businesspeople and curious foreigners sit and pontificate among the classical books, globes, maps and other attributes reminiscent of the period in which the author Pushkin lived. The waiters are slow, but dressed in appropriate style. Order a cup of tea with Pirozhki and don’t faint when you get the bill.
