Jaloa

At first sight this is the least noticeable of restaurants at the nice and lively busy square. Snake leather sofas, concrete ceilings with austere armatures, large paintings on the wall. The sturdy and arty restaurant has also a somewhat stiff side with elements such as smoked glass mirrors and un-hip plants. If this is not tightened up the target group will slowly die out. But the atmosphere is good and hospitable. The calm serving staff lets no glass go empty and is very obliging. You go to Jaloa for the food. Tartar of veal and caviar, a delightful fried top tuna on a bed of bamboo shoots with wasabi ice cream and as amusée (small appetizer) a crème brûlée of foie gras and the unavoidable test tube of asparagus juice. Apart from the many fish dishes you can eat a gorgeous piece of Hereford-rib beef here. All of it served up very tastefully with, once again, now and then a bit too much of a stiff element about it. A great spot for a business lunch or a serious talk. Closed on Sundays.
