Neugrüns Köche

One of Neugrün’s chefs, says “we are a family enterprise without being a family.” Years back you would have called it a collective. The result: a name that nobody understands, and a familial cuisine that, on good days, is out of the ordinary and on weak days, just interesting. What remains constant is the effort put into the extremely appealing presentation of dishes. A distinctive feature: there are only two four-course menus, either “Regional” (German) or “Southern” (Mediterranean). You can easily skip one course which is probably a good idea because desserts were invented somewhere else. It’s popular in the hip scene mainly due to the Berlin chic: a bit trashy with graffiti on the wall in the garden and stacks of wine crates next to the bar. In the rear you can hear the oven fire crackle. The right place to start a tour through Prenzlauer Berg’s alternative scene with its Wohnzimmer bars, micro clubs, second hand shops and galleries.
