Even real die-hards may find Bangkok’s hustle and bustle a trifle overwhelming ... it’s time to get your second wind in the jungle at Ana Garden, right in the heart of Sukhumvit. The barbecue’s sold out every evening, despite the fact that the food isn’t really special by Thai standards. So better leave it at that, in combination with a Thai beef salad or flambé. Drinks are much too pricey as well, but Ana Garden is still a must-visit: the jungle-style surroundings featuring tall trees, pools, fountains and a wooden bar give you the inner repose and tranquillity you need. It’s just like being on one of the southern Thai islands ... until the house beat issuing from the ‘groove kitchen’ at the back drowns the strains of acid jazz and dispels the dream.
