Café de Laos
What’s in a name? Café de Laos, not a café but a restaurant. This colonial wooden house, surrounded by a jungle of plants, forms an oasis in the heart of Bangkok. The Thais and tourists as well as expats love this spot: Thai visitors immediately head for the air conditioning inside whilst the ‘farang’ sit outside near the big BBQ or seek more peaceful surroundings behind the house. Although the kitchen claims to be Loas/Isaan, it features many familiar Thai dishes – only better. However, all the dishes are spicy, so order medium (rather spicy) or a little bit spicy (‘pet nitnoi’); these are just about acceptable. Good news for those allergic to monosodium glutamate (MSG): this has now been banned from the kitchen.Address
